How to care and clean Leather Wear

Cleaning Tips

First, you need to be clear about what type of leather you are dealing with, if your jacket is suede or nubuck you should take it to a specialist cleaner. Despite what you may read on the internet, a leather jacket should never be totally immersed in water or placed in a washing machine. Regular conditioning and wiping with a damp cloth will help prevent a build-up of dirt and grease and storing your jacket in dry conditions will prevent mould. To remove dirt and grease or light staining, use a damp cloth and soapy water. Blot rather than rub and avoid over-wetting the leather. Dry the leather naturally but do not allow it to remain damp for long. Polyester or cotton linings can be cleaned using the same method, but silk or rayon should be cleaned by a specialist. Avoid Using nail polish remover.

Keep your jacket dry: Avoid wearing your leather jacket in rainy weather. If it does get wet, make sure that you hang it out to dry immediately before putting it away.

Hang your jacket correctly: Never leave your jacket folded for a long period of time, as this can encourage creases and cracks in the leather. Instead, hang it on a wide, preferably padded hanger in a well ventilated closet — never in the sunlight, as that can quickly discolor the jacket. This is particularly important for suede.

Use a leather conditioner: Leather will always naturally lose some of it moisture, but using a reputable leather conditioner on finished leather can prolong its life. Not applicable for suede leather.

Learn how to remove wrinkles: Ironing a leather jacket is typically not recommended, however it can be done to remove wrinkles as long as you are extremely careful. The key is making sure that the iron never comes into direct contact with the leather. Lay the wrinkled section of the leather jacket flat on an ironing board and place a clean cotton towel or cloth over it. Turn the iron on to the lowest setting possible so the leather is not exposed to too much heat. It’s also recommended that you empty out all of the water in the iron before beginning so there are no spills. Then, apply light pressure and run the iron across the cotton cloth quickly. Do not move the iron slowly across the surface or press it down firmly against the cotton cloth. Low heat and a light touch should be enough to remove the wrinkles.

Dust the Leather jacket with a gentle cloth : If your leather jacket has been left in the closet for a while, it may need dusting. To avoid scuffing or damaging the leather, use a dry cotton cloth, nubuck cloth, or brush.

Clean Suede Leather jacket with brush: Brush the entire surface of your suede jacket. This will fluff up the nap, which improves the overall look of your suede while also loosening dirt or debris on the surface.

Spray the jacket with a suede protector: The suede protector will help keep your jacket clean and protect it from many surface stains, such as water and oil. However, suede protector won’t protect against stains, like blood, ink, or mud. Suede protector helps against many stains acquired through everyday wear

How to remove spots and stains:

-Wipe excess butter, oil or grease off the leather with a clean 100% cotton white dry cloth. Then leave it alone as the spot should dissipate into the leather in a short period of time.

-Do not apply water or try to wash the butter, oil or grease spot.

How to remove chewing gum:

-Place ice cubes in a plastic bag and apply on the chewing gum. Wait several minutes, lift the ice bag and remove the chewing gum.

Removing Odours:

As we all know about the leather that the leather has natural smell here's are some steps to remove odour from leather.

1)Like any other garment, you can make your leather jacket smell nice by hanging it outside. Exposure to the fresh outside air naturally deodorizes garments to remove bad-smelling odors.

2)Pour white distilled vinegar into a spray bottle. Fill about halfway.
Spray the inside of the jacket until it is soaked.
